Watching movies brings me joy, a lot of joy. I really don’t care if it scores high on IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes, if a movie speaks to you, it just does.
Recently, I finally watched Pan’s Labyrinth. It hadn’t been available to watch in a legal way here in The Netherlands and now it’s finally on Prime. As I suspected, the movie left a huge impression. Like all of Guillermo del Toro’s movies, by the way.
Favorite movies
I shared about it on Twitter and in order to get some inspiration for new movies, I asked my followers which movie left a big impression on them. Regardless if it had been a blockbuster, had awesome reviews, is a classic. Old, new, whatever genre, story, or director and cast. Just the title of a movie that made them think and why.
It got a little out of hand, there are over 400 responses and counting. I decided to make a list of the titles so far. Because there are so many reactions, I left out the motivations. If you’re Dutch and like to read them, you can find the thread here. When you read this, the thread will probably be even longer with more titles.
The list!
I tried to organize them a little bit. The genres aren’t always a perfect fit but in order not to overdo it with a variety of genres, I narrowed it down a bit. I most certainly did not get all the titles that are in the thread but it’s a good way to fill up your watchlist a little more. I also did not add the places where you can stream these movies, that’s different in every country. So that task is up to you.
An IMDB-version of this list can be found here. Or well, a part, I’m still adding movies.
Enjoy this list! And don’t hesitate to leave your all time favorite movie in the comments.
If you don’t hear from me soon, I’m on a movie-watch bender. Probably back in about 20 years with a list of my own all-time favorite movies.
